David, would that be the Mex restaurante with the Billy the Kid shoot-out mural on the outside of the bldg? I spent many an hour in Mesilla while in the Army at Ft. Bliss, El Paso (where ignorance was efficiently institutionalized). If it's the place I'm thinking of, it's on the plaza side opposite the old church.

Weekends would find me hopping Continental Trailways to stay with an old hometown buddy who was getting his M.A. at NMSU. Beer and Johnny Carson. What a welcome break from the barracks! Very interesting area around Mesilla. You should have seen it in the early 70's! Didn't even recognize it when we passed through there a couple of years ago.

BTW, when I was stationed at Bliss, one of the old soldiers who lived there was Omar Nelson Bradley, the soldier's general, whom I never met but was surely a relative of my Bradley relatives from the same area of Missouri. Bradley and my dad's cousin, Leonard Townsend Gerow (VMI 1911), were roommates at the War College in the 1930s.
