A Little Thing...

All my life of studying wars, I always wondered why a Lieutenant General outranked a Major General. It hasn't kept me up at nights, but I just learned why this is the case. Apparently, the first rank that included the word general was a Captain General. Later, other ranks, such as Colonel General, Lieutenant General and Sergeant Major General came along. Now do you understand why a Lieutenant General outranks a Major General? I told you it was "a little thing".
