Actually, Stan, the term "Yellow Dog Democrat" came into popularity post-WBTS and pre-Great Depression. In 1928, Sen. Tom Heflin of Alabama refused to support his fellow Dem, Al Smith, in Smith's bid for presidency of the U.S. and instead supported Republican H. Hoover.

"Some" Dems at the time coined the phrase.
