Re: Richmond Virginia Hospital Records

A lot of the records of the Confederacy were burned during the evacuation of Richmond at the end of the war. If a hospital's records were not burned, they were taken to the War Department in Washington and eventually to the National Archives (Record Group 109.8). When the National Archives prepared the Compiled Military Service Records, they included all notations of a soldier's service in his record, including hospitalizations.

The war records that have been digitized and put on-line have been records that are on microfilm. The hospital records are not on microfilm.
