Re: Gettysburg visitors center

George,

I'm not at all surprised that this movie would devote a great deal of the "story of Gettysburg" to Slavery in the United States. You will likely see more of these modern social and cultural themes at the parks. A few years ago a major refurbishing of the Gettysburg Museum and park headquarters was done with the inclusion of a large hall devoted to Slavery in America. Federal funding was much easier to obtain for a museum that turned a large part of the Gettysburg battlefield museum into a Slavery museum. I would not be surprised if a number of our National Military Parks use such methods to attract funding. On my visits to the battlefield parks, I rarely visit the museums, except to cool off or use the restroom and water fountains. The parks are using this issue to obtain funding with elected representatives who are far more interested in modern populist culture than they are in history. If you don't like this sort of thing, you should consider it when you pull the lever this November. I will.

Jim
