How like an invasion

I drove I-49 yesterday, which if you don't know is the interstate that runs north out of south Louisiana. It made me start thinking of those in the war who were forced from their homes either because of military occupation or battle. I saw folks carrying their most treasured possessions fleeing the scene of the coming damage. I saw several cars with flat tires or other mechanical issues and it didn't take much imagination to picture some women, kids, old folk and some sick or infirmed with a wagon wheel that maybe had fallen off or mule that was balking. I saw merchants running out of the everyday items we need and take for granted and yes, heard of crooked merchants trying to take advantage of folks.

I could go on with the comparisons but just thought I would share this with y'all. Unless I'm mistaken, none of us has ever lived through an invasion. This is different I know but similar in many ways. You can almost feel people's panic, like it is something tangible. I've seen evacuations before but trust me when I say I've never seen one on this scale.

It sure gives me a better feeling of what many folks, north and south, black and white, went through in those troubled times. It is also a great reminder that the best thing about the WBTS is the fact it is over. Thank God for the peace we have today.
