Re: Change of subject
In Response To: Re: Change of subject ()

I have the honor of being a native of and almost lifetime resident of Cobb County, Georgia, which lies along the west bank of the Chattahooche at Power's Ferry. The valley here is very narrow, and runs in a northeasterly direction. This part of the state lies over a nundred miles northwest of Savannah, the nearest coastal city. The effect of any hurricane would be minimal in this terrain; likely to consist of gale force winds and heavy rain. The two main dangers from weather would be ice in the winter, and tornados in the summer and fall. The lay of the land is conducive to the path tornados usually take; southwest to northeast. In 1934, the year my parents married, saw a series of major tornados go through just north of here, and do very serious damage to Gainesville, with many lives lost. The kinds of storms that engender tornados could lead someone not familiar with the phonomenon to misname it a hurricane. Stan
