As I discussed this question with the other fellow, his point is the CSA up until Gettysburg was mostly winning the war. So why didn't the South sue for peace and free the slaves? He has two points to this line of thinking, if the South had freed the Slaves; the international community would have more than likely recognized them as a legitimate country and would have entered the war on their side. His other point and I have no idea how he gets to this if the South would have sued for peace Lincoln and the international community would have e recognized then as a free and independent nation. I explained any peace movement by the Confederate government would only be viewed as surrender, more than likely unconditional. His whole argument is the war was fought to either free or keep slavery, yet he cannot offer any historical point that supports his belief.

Clear as mud???
