Re: Elvis Presly's & Gen. Patton's ancestors.....!

"What was funny, he deserted, yet went and joined another unit and continued to serve."

I'm just running off memory here but I believe he did this more than once. I also seem to recall that he enlisted in cavalry units and would take the bounty money for providing his own horse then skedaddle to repeat the process again elsewhere. This was brought out years ago on the Mississippi board and for some reason it has stuck in my mind. If I am in error may he forgive me for besmirching his good name. I've been besmirched before and it ain't no fun LOL!

Some years ago I managed to contact, through the SCV, a descendent of Gen. William Paul Roberts. I didn't actually talk to the descendent but to his wife. Anyway, turns out we could not establish a relationship to our Roberts lines, not counting going so far back we could wave at Adam and Eve. However, it turns out that Gen. Roberts did have family who settled in Mississippi. Guess where... Tupelo area. And yes, they married into the Presley family so I guess Elvis may be the only man who could ever say he had a Confederate General for an ancestor and Michael Jackson as a son-in-law :-)

P.S. Don't take the Roberts/Presley connection too serious as I believe this lady was grasping at straws to tie her line to old Hunka-Hunka burnin' luv himself LOL!
