I don't doubt they shot at the Nashville, there was a newspaper man on the Baltic that witnessed it and a Confederate officer, I believe in the lighthouse, that reported, confusingly, seeing a Union ship firing on one of their own. I think it very odd that this "First Shot" idea has gotten legs enough to carry on til this day, even where the Naval Institute Press is selling paintings showing the event. This is something I wouldn't be bragging about.
