So he was no spring chicken. I like your comparison to reenacting. My main commanding body, the ANV, (www.bonnieblue.net) has a program called the Senior Reserves. These folks can sit out the marching to and from the battlefield and stay in a support role with the Provost or Medical Staff. This works well as it keeps the old blood and good food and whiskey at the events but lets those a little more spry do the leg work. I've actually got a guy that works my field piece as No. 3 from time to time that is 76 years old. He goes to the gym 3 times a week and can still hang with the best of us.
