I started re-enacting in the 125th Anniversary in 1986 at the same age as my Grandfather, when he enlisted as a volunteer in 1861, 38.

Made most of those early re-enactment including marching twenty miles from Corinth, Mississippi to Shiloh in heavy rain, freezing rain, and finally snow.

Seen the elephant at Manassas, Gettysburg, Sharpsburg, Spotsylvania and fought mosquitos at Vicksburg.

Froze to death at Franklin, Tn in -05 degrees below zero night time tempertures.

Choked on the gunsmoke and burning woods in the Wilderness. Waded ankle deep waters to attack the yankees in the Floods of Hurricane Gilbert at Chicka-mud-ga.

Passed out from the heat in Hot-lanta.

Saw birds go to roost in the middle of the day because the gunsmoke of 1.5 million rounds of smaller arms and artillery darkened the skys.

Saw young rabbits jumping from body to body of re-enactors laying on the ground trying to excape before our advanceing formations.

Heard the noise of battle so loud that a man 3 feet away from you couldn't here you yelling at him at the top of your voice.

Heard a Rebel Yell that sounded like banchees wailing in the winds, and it made your blood curdle.

And all of this was just play acting. I can only image what our ancestor saw and heard.
