It was reported that a number of live rounds were taken from the house and made inert and some were reported to have been destroyed (exploded). White did a lot of work for the NPS at Petersburg so it would not be out of the question for him to been in posession of a number of live rounds. Live ordnance is not uncommon in this area. Four unfired live Parrott shells were found on The Old Quaker Road in Mechanicsville just a few weeks ago. The property belongs to a good friend of mine. Looking at period maps shows a Confederate Battery in that area in '64 during the battle of Cold Harbor. This road runs right through The Adams Farm where Patton's troops plugged a Federal breakthrough during the battle.
