I am rereading J.B. Polley's "Hoods Texas Brigade", (It is nice to reread the old classics again), Anyway, Polley made menton of this, and since in most accounts it is not mentioned I wondered as to the factual nature of his comment.
I wondered if anyone had run across the same thing in other sources. Not that Polley is an absolute reliable source, But he is often quoted in many text. I don't know where Polley came up with it that the dispatch was captured and that it influenced Meade to stay the 3rd and not withdraw after the battles of the 2nd.
I known that Meade held a conference on the night of the 2nd to determine what damage was done and what he should do on the 3rd, but I don't know if such a dispatch had any bearing on any decisions that were made.
