Things you hear...

I thought I would share this...

I was listening to a comedy station on my XM radio this morning, on the way to work, and tuned into the middle of an act by an unfamilure comic. He was making fun of his in-laws in Georgia and of the people he met at one of those giant flea markets that exist in the South. His story centered around a Confederate flag booth and the people who ran it, and his audiance, who I assume were not Southern, was getting a kick out of his uncomfortable encounter with the people and symbols around him at this booth. From the act I learned he was Jewish and from Los Angeles.

As he got to the end of his act his attitude became somber and he told the audiance that on the plane back to LA his thoughts turned to his feelings. He realized the he was now more at ease because he knew he was on his way back to people who thought like he thought, felt like he felt, and saw the messages in symbols like he saw them. After this realization of his comfort zone and who he was, he thought about his in-laws and he admitted because of culture and geography they thought differently and truely were not stupid or racist; they were kind to him, and tried to share what they thought he would be interested in, his in-laws saw the Confederate Flag as a proud symbol or rebellion and nothing more.

At this point the comic ended his act by saying, "I realized then that HE was the bigot"; the audiance clapped.
