Can you imagine what's left of the Union after border state secession continuing to pay federal pensions, social security, Medicare, veterans benefits and so on to those in the seceding states. Hard to imagine that. Conclusion, there will be no secession this time around. Instead the issue will be fought out in the halls of congress without benefit of secession. My opinion only.
