Yes, I'm very much aware of who Fielding Hurst was. He and his counterpart on the Confederate side, a certain John Wharton engaged in brutal guerrilla warfare. Middle and Western TN was a complete battlefield and killing ground. East Tn on the other hand was not. No significant battles that I know but that of Knoxville. What was done in East TN. was the imprisonment, dispersing and oppression of it's citizens at the behest of it's civilian and military officials. The only battles that I can really think of in that area was Stoneman's Raid. Many of those ex-Tennessee Unionist would take their revenge on those who had oppressed them and in return would drive them from their homes. Which is why a lot of Confederate soldier descendants from East Tn are now in other areas. Counties in that area have had a stronger republican voting record than any county in the North.
