Re: 150 Years Ago Today...August 22, 1860

["The very obliteration of all old party lines in this contest is evidence of more than we assert, and it leaves to the successful nation candidate for the Presidency a boundless choice of men to aid him in administering the Government. Let our young and ambitious men bear this in mind, and to profit by it let them urge the people to organize, organize, organize"]

Well, I do believe History can repeat itself. We are watching it now.

The comments on the prize fighter's are pretty interesting. I recently found out my Uncle was named after one. We never knew just where his name came from. There is another Willard in the Helton line but they're the same generation. My cousin said Uncle told him that my Grandparents liked different fighters. Granddaddy liked Jack Dempsey. Grandma liked Willard and told GrandD that if the baby was a boy, she liked Willard so much she was going to name him that. He was a twin, my Mom's twin, but she named him after a boxer. Just when ya think you've found out most of the weird stuff, another tidbit comes falling through the air. The 'other' Willard had a brother named-----, yep, he did, ----Jack Dempsey Helton. Believe it, or not. They were the Grandsons of my GGGrand who was in the 32nd Alabama. The one who lost an arm and went back and stayed in the Army anyway. I told y'all I wasn't quite right and now I can prove it and show you the line where I get it from. :)
