Not really "hidden" from us -- it's just not easy to find one newspaper from that period and read it, let alone find a regular series. Unlike a book, newsprint is often difficult to copy in readable form or copy at all due to its condition.

Try it for yourself and let us know your results. Quite a number of newspapers should be available from Florida during the late antebellum period. In 1860 Mobile alone had as many as eight newspapers, weekly, daily and commercial.

It's only a recent development that some newspapers have become available in digital form.

Of course the information about a provisional government was designed to undermine support for Breckinridge-Lane throughout the country.
