Jamie, you are correct; Bishop/General Leonidas Polk does deserve to be remembered. Not for his miliary prowess, but for his courage, and the devotion he earned fom his troops. Perhaps the former quality, or lack thereof, is the reason he is not more honored by those who wrote the history, as he was by those who lived it with him. BTW, he was first cousin to President James K Polk. The site below gives a sense of the mixed opinions of the General. (Pine Mountain is about ten miles north of my house.) Stan
