They played a lot of MLB in the South in the 30s and 40s. My father worked at the basefield in Montgomery, Ala. when he was 14. The Yankees were in town, and while dad was on the field cleaning up a baseball hit his foot. He heard somebody say "hey kid, throw it over here"...it was Joe Dimaggio. Dimaggio asked my Dad to help out with their pickle drill, and for several minutes my Dad was a Yankee!
