David Garno, Co. G, 28th NY Inf.

I realize this is technically off-topic, but there is no New York board and I wanted to get the widest exposure.

Attempting to identify burial location.

While conducting research on Confederate soldiers buried in Rockingham County, Virginia, I discovered a newspaper article which listed David Garno (AKA Galarnan, AKA Galarneau), Private, Company G, 28th New York Infantry, being buried in Woodbine Cemetery, Harrisonburg, VA.

After the War, beginning in 1866, Federal soldiers disinterred their men in the Shenandoah Valley and moved them to various national cemeteries. Most of the Yankees buried in Woodbine, listed with Garno, are now in Staunton Military Cemetery. However, Garno is not listed there; nor is he listed in the national registry.

If anyone has information concerning Private David Garno (AKA Galarnan, AKA Galarneau), Co. G, 28th NY Inf., it would be greatly appreciated.

If this man still lies in an unmarked grave in Woodbine Cemetery, Harrisonburg, I want to make sure he gets a Veterans Administration marker.

If he is buried somewhere else, I can mark him off my list.

Thanks.
