"Comparatively" to Grant's losses in 1864 (e.g. The Wilderness) then Fredricksburg was weak, a small loss. Lincoln's War was about attrition and the North had a lot more resources, a lot more cannon fodder. He had a lot in common with Stalin, but then, Stalin was fighting off an invader. Perhaps Hitler would be a better comparison. I am just an amatuer historian, but I do believe this is the only War the U.S. won with more casualties than the enemy. Am I the only person who thinks this is significant?
