I can now date the photograph. It was taken between the morning of April 19, 1865 and the morning of May 23, 1865. The other photos in series show the U.S. Flag at half mast- (they were not ordered to do so until the morning of April 19) and the U.S. Navy discovered the C.S.S. Columbia was not in too bad of shape, and was able to fire her boilers and refloat her. She sailed out of Charleston harbor, on her own power, over the bar, at 8 a.m. on the 23rd of May, 1865. The Vanderbilt took her in tow to Norfolk.
