The Service Record of Private William J. McGee, Co. K, 8th Mississippi Infantry

Enrolled on May 4th, 1861 by Captain William N. Hardy in Captain Samuel Prince's Company (Old Company C) at Ellisville, Jones County, Mississippi age 27.

Mustered into service on May 18, 1861 at Ellisville, Jones County, Mississippi by Captain William N. Hardy.

Muster Roll from August 22, 1861 to (not dated) traveled 57 miles in 3 days.

Muster Roll and Pay Roll from August 24, 1864 to October 18, 1861 (one month and 24 days) prepared Feb. 9, 1862 signed by W. J. McGee.

Muster-in Roll, Roll dated Enterprise Mississippi, Oct. 18, 1861. Muster in to date Oct. 18, 1861.
Joined for duty and enrolled: Oct. 18, 1861 at Enterprise by J. S. Lanier, Lt. CSA for 1 year.

"This company was transferred form State to Confederate Service with the 8th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers., Commanded by Col. G. G. Flint, for their unexpired term. This regiment organized on the 24th August, and their term of Service commenced on that day."

I've seen the hand written cemetery records, both W. J. and James McGee at listed as buried in plot #8.

The family history states that W. J. never returned from the war...James is not mentioned in my family history. My feeling is they both were captured... they both died... and they buried them together in the same plot.
