The subject is Pvt. Robert (Bob) T. Buchanan, Co. B, 50th Inf. TN. He was surrendered at Ft. Donelson, did 7 months at Camp Douglas, finished his one year enlistment and deserted in Grays Port, MS @ 20 Dec. 1862. There were several more deserters from various companies who returned to Stewart County, perhaps more than several. I have found evidence that he joined a group of partisans after returning home to occupied Dover, TN. If that is Bob Buchanan in that group photo of veterans, then it would be another indication that he continued fighting Yankees rather than sit around and watch them steal or destroy his property.
