I have never come across any earlier documentation on that period concerning defensive concerns of Mobile prior to Fort Pickens reenforcement. Why didn't Federal forces focus on Fort Morgan when it was virtually unprotected instead? Probably because it had no coaLing facilities on which they needed to complete the blockaid.
