CSS Texas bombed by Facist Air Forces

The sister ship to the CSS Alabama was the CSS Texas. She never made it to the Confederates. Known as the "Pampano" the British customs blocked her transfer. After war was over, Chile bought the raider, and renamed it the "Tornado". It was intercepted and captured by Spanish forces in transport and became a cruiser of the Spanish Navy. Later, it became famous for capturing the U.S. steamer, and ex-Confederate blockade runner "Virgin" or "Virginius", which led to the "Virginius Affair" and to the Spanish-American Crisis of 1873. The "Virgin" was the last blockade runner my relative Captain Colin James Campbell had commanded before being captured in Mobile Bay in 1864. In fact the "Virgin" was in the Port of Mobile, being fitted out for another run at the time. The Confederates then acquired the "Virgin" and used her as a picket ship. The CSS Texas, would later end it's days in combat, being sunk by air attack during the Spanish Civil War on November 28, 1938.

What a weird history.
