David, A friend of mine here in Eastern Virginia was relic hunting on an old house site in King and Queen County about a year ago. He found two kepi buttons from a CSS Texas uniform. Although she never made it to Confederate service, apparently a special uniform was designed and manufactured for her crew. Those hat buttons were dug near a well and were just about the right distance apart for the entire hat to have buried there at one time. Lord only knows how they ended up in Virginia.
