Hank Williams Jr. and the Civil War

I just saw a program hosted by Hank Williams Jr. that covered his interest in the Civil War. He gave a tour of his great collection of Civil War artillery. He has a 12-lb napoleon with Union marks but its number is not found in records. He has a wishful idea that it may have been one that Forrest had made off with from some Union depot. He has a Confederate Rome Georgia foundered 6-lb brass tube. A 10-lb parrot rifle (I believe he said made in a Confederate Nashville armory during the war- one of these was :)). He has the remains of a gun that had burst at Fort Donelson. This gun he had given to Johnnie Cash who shared a great interest in the Civil War. When Cash died he had willed it back to Hank Williams Jr.

Hank used to do Civil War reenacting. He also spent many days with Johnnie Cash with metal detectors searching for war relicts. He and Johnnie used to fire a US 3-Inch Ordinance Gun for fun- Johnnie liked making it jump off the ground.

His cannon display is very impressive and he has a little home museum where he keeps them.

Hats off to a fine Southerner.
