Re: Dennis Rogers Co.K 44th. Mississippi

Thanks, George. That starts to make sense. In an August 12, 1864, George Lea of the 7th Miss. said "Hatch Rogers was slightly wounded on the 28th". I had suspected that he later died from his wounds; but what you found indicates that he recovered, returned to duty, and was killed in the ditches west of Atlanta two weeks later on August 26, 1864.

Now if we can find out where he was buried, we will be good.

The question arose because there is an unknown burial at the Marietta Confederate cemetery whose listing is "_____ Rogers Co. K 44th Miss." There are no other Rogers in the 44th so I was certain it was him. Now I am not because Marietta was held by federal forces in August of 1864.

His full name was Dennis H. "Hatch" Rogers, also spelled Roggers and Rodgers in letters and other records. We know he was wounded at Murfreesboro and Ezra Church. He enlisted in an independent company in Amite County MS. in 1861 which would become Co. K of "Blythes battalion" and later 44th Miss.

Any help would be appreciated.
