That's fine, the true definition is as long as the person is French or Spanish and not native born to those countries. Creole includes not excludes other races within their family. The major point is culture and law of the 19th Century. Creoles and mixed race Creoles were mostly free peoples in a slave society absorbed into American culture by annexation of Spanish and French territories. I.E. when authorities in Alabama had to ask the Confederate government if Creoles could be enlisted into the Confederate armed forces and were refused because of their race, it was not because they were French, it was because to the government in Virginia they were Black. If the Mobile Creoles were not of mixed race the authorities would not have to have ask for special permission for Confederate enlistment.
