It is my opinion, for whatever that is worth, that the "battle flag" was once considered as representing the Confederate Nation but it was rejected by the Confederate Congress. I am sure you are aware it is the canton for the national flag but was adapted by General Lee as a battle flag, I believe, without an approval or disapproval by the Confederate Congress. You may be looking for something that really does not exist or ever happened "officially". If you find your answer, I would certainly appreciate knowing whatever you find.
