James Bray

I ran across a old gentleman in Las Vegas, Nevada who claimed to have a Confederate grandfather at the Battle of Shiloh. The grandfather's name was James Bray and fought for a Mississippi unit and had been living in Chickasaw County, Mississippi. The grandson name is Mel Bray and said he was 84 years old. He too was born in Chickasaw County and I found him as five years old in the 1940 United States census. I did not see a James Bray who would have fought at Shiloh at fold 3. However there does appear to be a tombstone for James Bray in the 9th Regiment Mississippi Infantry and that unit was at Shiloh. Trying to establish if the story is correct and his grandfather really was at
Shiloh.
