There was a Major George Martin Grimes and a Lt. Colonel Ben Kirkland .
My gr.gr.great grandfather was George Kirkland Grimes. He and some other siblings left Orangeburg ,South Carolina about 1840 and migrated to Alabama. I found records of these ancesters that came to Alabama in several Alabama units .
I am trying to find informaton to link with Major Grimes and Col. Kirkland.
There were a lot of Grimes , Kirklands , Sanders , Brabhams in the 1st SC INF. I am descendent of all.
