A casualty list for the battery can be found in the roster of, A History of the 2nd South Carolina Infantry" by Mac Wyckoff. A list of prisoners at Johnson's Island, Ohio cites Lt. E. T. O'Neal, residence Charlotte, NC, who was captured on 4 July 1863. The Johnson's Island Autograph Book of Lt. Dibble lists the same officer with a slightly different spelling, E. F. O'Neill, this time listed as being from Gainesville, FL. Confederate Veteran, vol. 21 (1913), p. 301 cites Thomas Hunter, who was at Gettysburg. In the same battle T. Hay was buried near the barn on the Crawford's tenant farm--he was reinterred in SC after the war. Also in that battle, William P. Casey, age 19, was buried on John S. Crawford's farm, east of the tenant house where Samuel Johns lives, and Cpl. Andy Martin was buried at the same tenant house east of the barn. The seriously wounded from the battery all seem to have been taken back to the same location where a hospital was established. 2nd Lt. Stephen Capers Gilbert commanded the battery at Gettysburg, and Confederate Military History, Extended Addition, vol. VI (SC) pp. 595-596 states they were there with 70 men and four guns (12-pounder howitzers) and lost 10 men killed, 20 mortally or severely wounded, 12 less seriously wounded, 25 horses, two caissons and two guns dismounted. However, no mention of their flag.
