Battery Wagener, at the tip of Morris Island, has fallen prey to beach erosion, and is completely gone. I am sure that there are a few sites of batteries that are still left, but the tremendous growth in the Chjarleston area has taken out most of them. Fort Moultrie was used as a coastal defense facility into the 1940's, and it bears no resemblance to what was there in 1861-65. It is open, however, and is interesting from a standpoint of what a late 1800's -early 1900's coastal defense fort looked like. I went there probably twenty to more years ago.
