The 3rd SCVI was orginally assigned to Bonham's (later Kershaw's) Brigade. They were in this brigade for the entire war. The 3rd was one of the hardest fighting regiments in the ANV. They surrendered in Greensboro in '65 with Johnston. There are many books about the 3rd available. Dickert's History of Kershaw brigade is an excellent source of information. The wartime letters of Dick and Talley Simpson are another great source. Finally, if you can find it, Mac Wykoff's History of the 3rd SC is a great read. Mac is a NPS Ranger and Frederickburg and is one of the foremost scholars on Kershw's brigade.
