Pvt. Madison A. Brown, 25th S.C. Inf.

Madison A Brown, a private in Company C of the Twenty-fifth South Carolina Infantry, suffered a severe thigh wound at the Battle of Drewry's Bluff on May 14, 1864. he fell into enemy hands, and was placed in an ambulance alongside a Union sergeant from New Hampshire who had suffered a leg wound from a shell fragment. Noticing that Brown's face was dripping with perspiration, the federal sergeant used his handkerchief to wipe the sweat from the Confederate's brow. The two men conversed during the ride to a nearby hospital. At this point the men were separated. The Union sergeant last saw Brown being carried into a tent.

After the war, the Union sergeant, Thomas Osgood, who served in Company C of the Twelfth New Hampshire Infantry, often wondered what became of Madison Brown.

Do you know? If so, please contact me.

Thanks,
Ron
