Dr. Thomas Franklin McDow

I am continuing my pursuit of searching for the illusive Dr. Thomas Franklin McDow, (1824-1884),my ggreatgrandfather from Liberty Hill, Kershaw Co., SC. I have just read a book "The Aftermath of Glory" by James Henry Rice, Jr. There is a letter sent from Camp Chestnut, SC (near Georgetown I think) written by an unnamed man to his wife December 1862. The writer is apparently from the Kingstree area. He addresses his wife a "Mamie" and says that he and Dr.McDow just returned from up the Peedee and Waccamaw Rivers-- a place called Laurel Hill near the Salt Works of Col. (Daniel) Jordan. They bought 16 bu of salt and says he will send some salt up to Kingstree in the army wagons. The writer mentions Maj. Emmanuel who commanded a squadron of calvary and a Capt. Eady from Marlboro. I will appreciate any and all help! Thanking you in advance. Beth Guess
