I am trying to find out if Allen C. Izard, who had been a midshipman in the United States Navy, and had resigned in 1857, is the same Allen Cadwallader Izard who later served as captain and lieutenant colonel in the 11th South Carolina Infantry, and if this was also the same person, only listed as "Isard", who had been a master's mate aboard the CSS SUMTER in 1861, but who had sent in his resignation from the CS Navy.
Could anyone confirm if these were all one and the same person, please?
I do know that there are some papers of the officer, Izard, who had served in the 11th SC Infantry, held at the South Caroliana Library, but will only apply for copies of these if I have confirmation that he was also the same officer who was in the Confederate Navy at the beginning of the war.
