Glad you enjoyed the historical sketch. Fortunately, most of the hospital's records have been preserved at the SC Archives and the South Caroliniana Library at the University of SC. They contain information on more than 6,000 Confederate soldiers who were admitted to the hospital during the years 1862-1865, including their names, organizations, medical complaints, dates of admission, and dispositions, as well as itemized listings of the personal effects of many of those who died while in the hospital. The records also include the hospital’s correspondence and order books, and provide a wealth of information on Confederate medical practices and procedures. As you might imagine, they are fascinating to read and research.
