Re: Massacre
In Response To: Massacre ()

Hello,
I am from Alabama and not familiar with that massecre, although my White and McDowell families, among others were from S.C.. I am also kin to the Means, Fosters, and Barnetts in the Spartanburg and Pacolet area. Some of the families that married into my White line were Wests, Rakestraws, Wyatts, and Blacks. Anyway, my McDowells were Scotch-Irish who came to S.C. in 1796 aboard the ship "Margaret" and settled in the Pacolet area I think. Is that near the Tyger River? My ancester Col. Henry White fought in the Revolution and the Tyger River was mentioned in what I read about his activities.

Anyway, when did this massecre happen, Revolutionary War of Civil War? When did it happen and who did the massacering? Was it during the Civil War, done by Union or Confederate troops. Just curious.
Thanks,
Dave
