Hi Mike,

The men of Company D of the 15th South Carolina Infantry came from Kershaw County, South Carolina. This regiment served for most of the War in General Joseph Brevard Kershaw's famous South Carolina brigade and was surrendered, along with the rest of the Brigade, to General Sherman at Greensboro, NC in 1865. Kershaw's brigade, including the 15th South Carolina, served as the last provost guard of Joseph E. Johnson's Army of Tennessee at the surrender of the troops in Greensboro. A roster of the men of Company D, along with biographical sketches for each of the 1,442 men who served in the Regiment from 1861-1865, may be found in "A History of the 15th South Carolina Infantry: 1861-1865" by James B. Clary. Included in this 600+ page book is a nearly day-by-day account of the 15th South Carolina's activities during the War. For additional details on-line, see www.15thscinfantry.com.

Best Wishes,

Jim Clary
