It was certainly used in 1862, but once the Coinfederates retreated up the Peninusla, Williamsburg remained in Federal hands, or at least was not in Confederate hands, to the end of the war. Confederates wounded at Petersburg and Richmond in 1864 were not treated there, which is the way that that some hospital cards appear in the Compiled Service Records.
