The Second moved north from Wilmington towards Kinston following their rear guard action and Bragg's evacuation of Wilmington on the 22nd of February. See Fonvielle's excellent work on the Willmington Campaign for the unit's action there.

Subsequently they provided intelligence as to the movement north by Terry's Federals (OR VOL 47 for specifics). Several members of the regiment were either wounded or captured towards the later part of March around Whitehall and Goldsboro.

A recent book on the Battle of Wise's Fork lists the regiment at the battle (March 8-10), although I am suspect of their presence, they are in the area, just farther south at that time in March by a county or two.
