My posting was a subtle reminder to stay on-topic. I was sure the posting had some Civil War connection, but for the sake of others visiting the site, I wanted it understood that a general genealogical discussion is certainly welcome, IF there is some connection to a Civil War person or event.

Thanks for the response and the elaboration on Amon Bell's parentage of a number of Confederate soldiers. Of course, it would have been better had they been SC soldiers, but nevertheless, it's an interesting and acceptable posting for this site.
