He would have had to have been dropped from the rolls, either for death, capture, discharge, etc., on the May & Jun., 1864 muster roll which is missing from the records, the next muster roll extant being that for the period Jul. & Aug., 1864.

F. M. Day enlisted as a Private in Company L, Palmetto Regiment South Carolina Sharpshooters July 30, 1861 at Andersen, S. C. by Captain Long for 7-1/2 Months, enlistment extended 2 years of the war, n.d., absent sick in hospital for approximately 6 months in 1862, served as a Nurse at Camp Winder hospital, Richmond, Va. in October 1862, returned to duty November 4, 1862, sent to hospital December 24, 1863, believe General Hospital, Liberty, Virginia where he was still there February 12, 1864, wounded in the right side, Bratton's Brigade, ANV May 6, 1864, signed for an issue of clothing May 18, 1864, no further records

The Palmetto Regiment of Sharp Shooters (also called Jenkins' Regiment and the 1st Regiment Palmetto Sharp Shooters) was organized April 16, 1862, with twelve companies, which were composed principally of men who had formerly served in the 4th, 5th and 9th Regiments South Carolina Infantry.
