J.T. Harper, 5th Tenn Inf., Co.H

Hello. I am interested in the 5th Tenn. Infantry, Co. H. as my great grandfather James Thomas Harper(1840-1928) served with this group. He was from Benton County Tennessee, I believe as I found the family there in 1850 and 1860 census.
Jim Harper was wounded at Shiloh and was there when the CSA General Joe Johnston(??) was brought in by his troops. The general had the same type wound, but his artery had been severed, thus he bled to death. Jim Harper was left with a bad leg for the rest of his life, but still marched all over with his group much the same as others did I am sure.
Along about 1881, Jim Harper who was a widower left Jackson,Tennessee with three of his motherless children. He made his way to central Arkansas, White and later Lonoke County, where he remarried and raised another housefull of children.
It seems that I read somewhere that this group may have been a reorganized one.
Where were they involved in battles and where did the 5th Tenn. surrender?
