Nashville, Tennessee resident and Confederate States of America Army captain. Wounded several times during the war, Fergus Sloan Harris (1840-1905) was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, then captain of Company H of the 7th Tennessee Infantry. In 1864 he was given command of Archer's Tennessee Brigade of Sharpshooters. After the war he returned to private life as a businessman in Lebanon, Tennessee. He also served as warden of the state prison of Tennessee.

Scrapbook contains clippings, poems, essays, speeches, a roster, and a letter.

Clippings pertain to the Civil War and to Confederate reunions in Tennessee. Essays include a heavily edited typescript copy of "This composition is on Aigs [eggs]," handwritten reminiscences "At the Battle of Gettysburg," a handwritten essay about "Negro superstitions," and a recipe for controlling a hot temper. Also includes an edited typescript of the "Speech of Hon. Temple Houston," a
roster of Company H, 7th Tennessee, and a letter (1899) from Alexander Peter Stewart of the War Department in Chattanooga acknowledging the letter Harris wrote which expressed sympathy for Stewart's recent injury.
